About Cotton Blossom
Cotton Blossom is a 3 skin kauri 55 ft Bruce Farr designed
sloop, built by Tim Curr and Peter Sowman in Auckland in
1979. She was the glamour boat on the Waitamata Harbour,
built to no rating rules with the biggest 3/4 rig at that
time.Raced sucessfully both locally and off shore.
Cotton Blossom was sold to Wellington where a name change
took place to Cotton Blossom 2 This 'name change' was
disputed in court but the judge deemed there had in fact
been a name change.
After 3 years of intensive racing Cotton Blossom 2 was sold
to Melbourne, Australia where her racing continued including
2 Sydney Hobarts.
Doug and Vonnie bought her in Sydney in 1995 in a rundown
state. We bought her with chartering in mind and after 4
years in a shed having a refit she emerged with 3 double
cabins each with their own en-suites and a complete upgrade
both inside and out.
However her racing days are still not quite over as she has
raced in a few longer races in and out of NZ
